Survivors of intracerebral haemorrhage are at high risk of a further stroke. TRIDENT tested whether a low-dose triple single pill, taken in addition to usual care, would reduce that risk. Sri Lanka was one of the participating countries, with the national programme coordinated by the CTU and led by Professor Asita de Silva.
[] sites were selected and activated. Investigators received formal protocol and GCP training, and each site was supported by an embedded study coordinator. Long-term follow-up over [] required sustained contact with participants, supported by [].
The trial showed a reduction of up to 40% in the risk of recurrent stroke, and the findings were published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2026.
