The Kelaniya RemediumOne partnership model

In 2009 the University of Kelaniya established a research partnership between the CTU and RemediumOne through a public-private partnership model, in order to expand the scope of the CTU’s services and improve project management.

The University contributes academic leadership, investigators and access to patients across tertiary care hospitals and communities. The partnership contributes project management, trained study coordinators and quality assurance. The agreement was renewed for a further five years in 2024.

The partnership now works at more than 22 hospitals with more than 150 medical specialists, and is one of the largest collaborative clinical research centres in South Asia. It is self-funded, and between 2015/16 and 2025/26 it returned approximately Rs 55 million to the Faculty of Medicine, supporting infrastructure and research capacity development.
